SUB COMMITTEES
STATUTORY COMMITTEES
The SefwiAkontombra District has an Executive Committee made up of Chairmen of all Sub Committees and key heads of departments. They formulate and execute policies of the Assembly. The District Chief Executive represents the Central Government and chairs the committee. It operates through the following sub-committees of the Assembly
- Finance and Administration Sub-Committee
- Social Service Sub-Committee
- Development Planning Sub-Committee
- Works Sub-Committee
- Justice and Security Sub-Committee
- Agriculture Sub-Committee
The sub-committees principally deliberate on specific issues and make recommendations to the Executive Committee. The Executive Committee in turn presents them to the Assembly for ratification and adoption.
The Executive Committee co-ordinate plans and programmes of sub-committees and oversees the smooth operation of the administration. It also has the power to recommend the appointment or replacement of officials in the District. The District Assembly as authority is responsible for the overall development of the District. There is a District Planning Coordinating Unit, which provides Advisory services to the Executive Committee in its planning functions.
Area Councils and Unit Committees are pivotal in local level development as they convey the Assembly and local community and act as the supreme points of development at the local levels. There are two (2) area councils. They are Akontombra and Nsawora. The inauguration of Unit Committees and Area Councils (the pivots of grass root participation in the country’s decentralization and local governance system) of the SefwiAkontombra District in fulfillment of section 3, subsection 3 (c, d) of the Local Government Act, 1993 (Act 462) and the Local Government (Urban, Zonal and Town Councils and Unit Committees) (Establishment) Instrument, 2010 (L.I 1967) was held in 2016. This follows a successful District Level Elections held nationwide in September, 2015 and the subsequent inauguration of Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) on the 6th of October, 2015.The Area Councils are yet to elect their Chairpersons and Secretaries who will work assiduously to make them functional.
The Assembly also has some major committees that work together to ensure peace and stability in the District as well as ensure sanity in developmental activities. These committees are the:
- District Security committee that basically deals with all security issues within the District. The membership is made up of the Heads of all Governmental Security Services in the District.
- Statutory Planning Committee is chaired by the District Chief Executive. The committee acts on recommendations submitted by the Technical Sub-committee who is made up of selected Departments that play various roles in the approval of Development permits.
- Tender Committee is chaired by the District Chief Executive with Selected Heads of Departments and Units as members. Their mandate is to award and manage developmental projects and any other issue relating to development within the District.
- District Education Oversight Committee
- Public Relations and Complains Committee which is chaired by the Presiding Member of the Assembly. Their mandate is to receive complaints made against the conduct of members and staff of the assembly from the public and make recommendations to the Assembly.
In addition to the above, the Assembly also has Water Boards/Committees that ensure the provision of water in communities such as Akontombra, Nsawora, Bopa and other communities.
